Correct Hair Extensions Aftercare Advice is the best way to get the most out of your hair extensions!
This post will cover how you should wash your hair extensions and which products you should be using.
Hair Extensions Aftercare Advice – Why Do Hair Extensions Take More Looking After Than My Hair?
Unlike your hair, extensions receive no natural oils or nutrients from the scalp. Essentially your extensions aren’t being ‘fed’ like your own hair, so you have to ensure you are ‘feeding’ your extensions all the goodness they need to stay strong and healthy.
Neglecting a good aftercare regime, and cheating your extensions of the best products may lead to shedding, dryness, irreversible damage and your extensions not lasting as long as you’d like them too!
What Products Should I Be Using On My Secret Hair Extensions
We have developed a range of aftercare products; specially designed to nourish and promote our hair extensions.
While you may hear the phrase ‘always use a low sulphate shampoo and conditioner,’ using products specifically designed for hair extensions is a much more important.
What Makes Our Hair Extensions Products Different?
Our hair extensions and products go through vigorous testing to ensure we are 100% happy with our products. In fact, we are so confident of the performance of our products; we don’t guarantee of extensions with anything else!
Our specialist shampoo is formulated to cleanse your extensions and scalp gently without stripping any vital moisture. The gentle blend of ingredients aids the maintenance of moisture in your hair. It is also perfectly compatible with hair extensions bonds and rings, unlike other products containing chemicals that could break down/discolour these components.
Our professional hair extensions conditioner is designed to hydrate and lock in moisture, your extensions are naturally porous, so it is vital to ensure you are conditioning regularly. Our conditioner has a large molecular formulation meaning the molecules cannot be absorbed by the hair, so instead, they form a protective layer around the strand of hair. A protective layer safeguards the hair against damage and locks in the hairs natural moisture and shine.
How Should I Wash My Hair Extensions?
We recommend only washing your hair extensions 2 -3 times a week.
Ensure your hair is thoroughly detangled before washing.
Wash and condition your extensions using Secret Hair Extensions Shampoo and Conditioner. Avoid putting conditioner too close to the root area; this is to prevent slippage and product build up. Allow the conditioner to permeate the hair for around 2 minutes, during this time we like to detangle the hair using our fingers or a wide tooth comb.
Rinse your extensions under the shower, never wash in the bath or allow your hair to swirl around in bath water.
We recommend using Secret Hair Extensions Hair Rehab Masque at least once a week, for an extra boost of hair goodness!
Once out of the shower, gently towel dry your hair by squeezing and patting the hair.
Spritz with Secret Hair Extensions Elixir, this is a leave-in conditioner and Protein Spray, it also smells delicious! Your hair will thank you later…
ALWAYS blow dry straight with a round brush with soft bristles, this keeps the cuticle flat and the hair smooth. We like to run a little Argan Oil Serum through damp hair before drying.
