Which foods help your hair grow? When working with hair replacement systems and extensions, we are often asked this question. Our clients want to know which foods can help their hair to grow alongside their extensions. Whilst there are many supplements and shampoos available on the market; what you feed your hair at home can have a huge impact on your hair’s growth and condition – remember the phrase “you are what you eat”. These are some of our favourite foods to help your hair grow.
1. Salmon.
Love salmon, not only is it super tasty – it’s also full of Vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids. Vitamin D will help the strength of hair and prevent breakage. Omega acids are great for skin, they will keep your scalp healthy and create a great environment for your hair to grow. Did you know a dry scalp and dull looking hair could be a sign of a lack of Omega 3 fatty acids?
2. Greens.
Eat your greens couldn’t be more appropriate here! Leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach and cabbage are nutritious for a number of reasons, but they are also miraculous for your hair. Full of Vitamin B, iron and Biotin; they are a great promoter of healthy skin, hair and nails. Biotin also helps to decrease hair loss, so increasing your intake of biotin should decrease the risk of your own hair shedding.
3. Nuts.
Nuts are great snacks, they’re quick, tasty and high in biotin content. Choose almonds or walnuts and eat about a handful per day. Biotin and hair growth go hand in hand, so these little treats are perfect for increasing hair growth. The good fats in walnuts helps to promote ‘glossiness’. It’s not just a good shampoo and conditioner that will leave your hair feeling smooth and glossy.
4. Avocado.
Avocados are probably one of the most fashionable foods on the planet right now, and I can see why! These green goodies are full of essential fatty acids that will keep your scalp healthy and moisturised, making an ideal environment for your hair to grow and flourish. It is just as important to look after your scalp as it is your hair. They also stimulate the production of elastin, which will leave it feeling stronger and more supple, include with your lunch or even mix in with a hair masque and apply directly onto your hair!
We hope these foods will make you reconsider which foods help your hair grow when making menu choices so that you feed your hair, supply your hair with the nutrients it deserves and you (and your hair!) will both feel much happier!
